The plantation is located on the right bank of the Commewijne river in the Commewijne district on the Reynsdorp plantation, also known as ‘Bakkie’. Plantation Reynsdorp is a former coffee plantation (1744) with old locks and buildings. It is the last inhabited plantation. Bakkie was devided around 1900 into mainly Javanese under old contract workers.
Museum Bakkie has a unique collection. On Bakkie you can see original: 1st edition books and prints by: J.G. Stedman, Benoit, Maria Sybilla Merian old maps and many artifacts and other special finds. These original masterpieces can be seen nowhere else in Suriname.
