From Paramaribo we leave by bus or car to Nickerie. During the four to five hour drive we will drive past the Wanica, Saramacca and Coronie district with the final destination Nickerie. You make a stop in the historic town of Groningen where, as the name suggests, Dutch farmers set foot ashore around 150 years ago. The ride then continues to the Coconut district Coronie where you will find some remaining typical wooden houses and churches. In Nieuw Nickerie, you will take a boat trip and will come across the mangrove trees. Arriving at Bigipan at the Eco Lodge, which is located in the middle of the large water surface, there is the opportunity to kayak or to lie in the hammock. At the end of the afternoon the guide will take you by boat to spot birds and you can enjoy the beautiful sunset. In the evening, after the hot meal, there is an exciting boat trip to spot caimans and other wild animals.
In September, October and half november the waterlevel in the wetland is low because of the dry season.

Enjoying a delicious breakfast by the water, you have a wonderful view of the Bigi Pan water surface. If the water level is high enough, we will sail to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean after breakfast, where we will take a mud bath. This is a special experience that you should definitely not miss. Moreover, taking a mud bath is good for the skin! Here there is also the opportunity to swim. Once back at the Eco lodge you have time for yourself and there is the opportunity to relax in the hammock. After a warm lunch we shall return to Paramaribo. You have the feeling that you have been completely gone for a while! This area is the wintering place of birds from North America and Canada. The area is approximately 250,000 ha. The red ibises occur from November to mid-May. Note: the program is subject to change (due to culture or weather conditions)
